Universal Electrolyte for Stainless Steel
The electropolishing of stainless steel is frequently used to produce high-quality functional or decorative surfaces. New materials and alloys as well as growing areas of use demand a corresponding continued development of surface technology.
The new electrolyte E 269 by POLIGRAT for the electropolishing of stainless steel is suitable for the processing of all qualities of stainless steel, irrespective of alloy and structure. This means that with this electrolyte austenitic, ferritic and martensitic stainless steels as well as duplex steels can be equally electropolished for the first time.
The electrolyte E 269 is characterized by a series of additional advantageous characteristics by comparison with the state of technology to date:
- The operating range with regard to working current density is very wide and and starts at very low working current densities. In the case of chromium-nickel steels, very good polishing results can be achieved from a current density of 2.5 A/dm2. This guarantees an excellent diffusion factor and considerably reduces the danger of burnt spots in the area of contact. This is especially advantageous in the processing of thin-walled components on a frame or bulk goods in drums. The enlarging of the batch size permits a better use of the plant capacity.
- The electrolyte E 269 works for metal content in the range between 0% – 7%. This means that the new electrolyte is also fully effective immediately when there is no metal content. The working temperature lies within the range between 30°C – 100 °C, which simplifies electrolyte control.
- Compared with normal electrolytes, the electrolyte E 269 demonstrates a levelling behaviour which is at least 30% improved. This means that the required surface quality can be achieved quicker and with reduced metal removal and electrolyte consumption.
- The obtainable gloss for the same amount of surface removal also lies approx. 30% higher, so that almost mirror-reflective surfaces can be achieved.
Press information
Depending on the working current density, the power efficiency lies in the range of between 75% – 97%. The result is a notably lower gas development on the parts surfaces with a correspondingly reduced risk of annoying gas streaks.
With the electrolyte E 269 POLIGRAT sets new standards as regards quality and plant performance as well as reduced consumption of materials and energy!
